's great american story of people helping each other we bught in crews from all over, from california and everywhere to come in help us. gerri: we talked a little bit about that last night, 53 house people coming -- ,000 people coming in to assist wh helping get lights back on.3 we were just talking about lower nhattan, we heard mayor say lower manhattan might get lights on saturday, it is -- is -- are you going to able to make good on that? >> we're doing our best, we can't put it on a time frame right now, this is so complicated. we had everything hit us, the wind, and extensive amount of rain, surging floods, so, you basically, have hit it by everything but the locust i think. we at water is a major problem in lower manhattan. we have to get the water pumped out of under ground systems. we just got off of a phone call with secretary chu and people from the white house, and they are coming in to help. but we have a major job to get into that under ground equipment to kind of clean it up to dry it up on, and to get it back up, so it's hard to make a predict. gerri: how many weeks? t

california coast tuesday when he was attacked. experts say they think it was a young, great white shark. stephens has a 14-inch shark bite and several other tears to his body. he says the shark came out of nowhere and he just remembers it grabbing him and pulling him down. >>i punched the shark a couple of times until it released me. >>when stephens surfaced. people on the beach jumped into the water and pulled him to safety. he was taken to the hospital where he immediately had surgery. stephens says he plans on surfing again as soon as he's healed. president obama and republican candidate mitt romney got their campaigns back in full swing today. they'll hit several key states as they try and shore up support with the election just five days away. president obama is in green bay wisconsin at this hour. he's on a 24-hour whirlwind tour. criss-crossing the country to campaign in the swing states of wisconsin, nevada, colorado and ohio. republican mitt romney is making three campaign stops in the swing state of virginia today. he told supporters the country's economic troubles will not

-old surfer was on his board and off of a jetty near the coast of eureka, california, yesterday morning. that's when a shark bit him and his board. listen. >> i opened my eyes under water and, punched the shark on the side of the head a couple times until he released me. >> reporter: punched the shark on side of the head and he was released. he has a 14 inch bite wound on his side. no major damage done. he will be okay. this is latest in a series of shark attacks off the california coast including one last week when a 39-year-old surfer was killed in santa barbara county. experts blame a great white 15 or 16 feet long in that attack. over the summer two kayakers reported sharks bit their boats but better to have your boat bitten than your torso. jenna: absolutely. i can't believe that story. did you see the surfboard? like the movies. he is so lucky. jon heard he hit him in the side of the head, he was yeah, that's the way you do it. jon: go for the eyes. jenna: go for the eyes. rick, now we know. rick, thank you. jon: as sandy's floodwaters recede there are all sorts of questions about what
